We live with a disease other people can’t see, let alone pronounce. Sarcoid…what? We live with a disease that baffles the medical community, demonstrating their often all too limited skill set and they sure don’t like it when we know more than they do! We live with a disease that is so individual that none of us experiences it the same way and there are no treatments for it that do anything other than make us insane, gain weight, loss our hair or throw up.

We live with a disease that causes such strange symptoms that even we think it’s all in our head sometimes. Did that limp really just go numb?  Am I really walking around with a fever all the time? We live with a disease that makes us forget things, fall down, gasp for air and feel unwell at some point every day of our lives. We live with a disease that there isn’t a known cause for….let alone a cure. We live with a disease that is considered rare and gets very little attention in the world of medical research. It’s hard to hope that things will ever get better for us.

We live with a disease where looking our best makes us suspect. We live with a disease that makes other people question if we are really sick. We live with a disease where having a good day makes us feel like our lives are a lie. We live with a disease that strikes on a whim…fine one minute…blinded by pain the next. We live with a disease that has its own agenda.

We live with a disease that requires a deep reservoir of inner resolve, a strength we never knew we had. We live with a disease that requires a daily desire to fight. We live with a disease that requires vigilance to stay above the fray. We have a disease that makes us respect life. We live with a disease that gives us choices about how to view what is truly important. Depending on our given circumstances and sometimes at any given moment, we live with a disease that is both a blessing and a curse.
